Partneriaeth Bwyd Ceredigion
Mentera is pleased to be hosting the Partneriaeth Bwyd Ceredigion, joining other areas in Wales to develop a collaborative, cross-sector food network and a Good Food Strategy.
Local Food Partnerships: A Path to a Healthier and More Sustainable Future
Funded by the Ministry of Social Justice and administered by Ceredigion County Council, The Partneriaeth Bwyd Ceredigion is part of a drive, led by Sustainable Food Places Wales, to address some of the most pressing social, economic, and environmental challenges in Wales by advocating for food partnerships in every area.
A Collaborative Approach to a Local Food Revolution
SFP champion the creation of local food partnerships that foster collaboration between policy makers, businesses, and civil society at the grassroots level. These partnerships are integral in driving fundamental shifts in local food systems and are catalysts for a rapidly growing movement of active and engaged citizens committed to positive change.
Six key issues
To achieve a comprehensive transformation of the food system, SFP’s framework for action identifies six key interconnected issues that must be addressed collectively:
- Food Governance and Strategy: Fostering strategic and collaborative approaches to food governance and action.
- Good Food Movement: Building public awareness, promoting active food citizenship, and nurturing a vibrant local food movement.
- Healthy Food for All: Combating food poverty, addressing diet-related health issues, and improving access to affordable, nutritious food.
- Sustainable Food Economy: Cultivating a prosperous, diverse, and sustainable food economy.
- Catering and Procurement: Revolutionizing catering and procurement practices and rejuvenating local supply chains.
- Food for the Planet: Addressing the climate and nature crisis through sustainable food and farming while minimizing food waste.
The Partneriaeth Bwyd Ceredigion: A Multifaceted Approach to Change
Imagine a community coming together, driven by a shared purpose to transform their local food system. The Partneriaeth Bwyd Ceredigion (PCB) serves as the backbone of this inspiring narrative, taking on diverse roles that lead to a more sustainable food future. LFPs are like the architects of change. They provide a collaborative platform for community members, businesses, and policymakers to gather and create local food-related strategies and policies. Through dialogue and cooperation, a collective vision leads to action that shapes the local food landscape.
In this journey of change, the Partneriaeth Bwyd Ceredigion acts as a bridge between different stakeholders. It facilitates the exchange of valuable data, insights, and best practices, forging connections that foster collaborative service delivery and joint initiatives leading to a Good Food Strategy, which takes into account the goals of the Wellbeing of Future Generations Act 2015. The PBC also administers funding to their stakeholders for cross-sector collaborative projects that align to the strategic aims of the partnership.
The Role of Local Authorities: A Key Ingredient
Local councils play a crucial role in promoting these partnerships. They hold significant responsibilities, powers, and influence in areas such as public procurement, planning, economic policy, public health, and responses to food poverty.
